How to Activate More Features on your Mac OS devices
Activating the Apple Lock and Factory Reset Tools for macOS Devices
To make use of our latest management features for macOS devices, Apple requires a trust-certificate from Prey that confirms you are the administrator of said devices. This individual certificate lasts for a year and devices need to be manually linked in order to direct Apple to the approved devices. We'll let you know in advance when it's time to renew so you don't experience service loss!
If you don't have this certificate yet, you have to obtain it before linking your devices to it and activating these extra features. Follow this link to your account's APNs certificate settings, there you will find all necessary instructions to obtain it. The process is instant and it will only take you a minute.
Once you have your certificate, it's crucial for you to link your MAC OS devices to the certificate, this way Apple will know in which devices they need to allow the use of advanced management features. This process needs to be done individually on each MAC OS device that is to be connected to the certificate.
Please note!
If your devices are not linked to your certificate you will not be able to unlock certain Apple-specific actions. Instead, they will be greyed out like it is shown in the image below.
You can also start the certificate linking process by clicking on any of the greyed out actions.
How to Link Your macOS Devices to the Certificate
Got your certificate already? Awesome! Now you need to connect each of your devices to it. Login to your Prey account and access your control panel. Open one of your macOS devices in the device tab. If your device has not yet been linked, then you must click on the LINK TO CERTIFICATE button right below your device's name and picture.
Once you click the button, the profile will be downloaded and you will be prompted to install it in the native Mac interface (in the System Preferences window, under Profiles.) Once the device has been linked to the certificate, the features will be unlocked and ready for you to use.
And your device will now appear as linked to your Apple Certificate.
Please keep in mind that the certificate has a limited validity. Prey will prompt you to renew the certificate prior to its expiration. If you want to review the process for renewing your APNS certificate, please check out this help center article on just that.
